Day 3: Always Go to the Expert

"The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much" James 5:16

The Way of Prayer

When thinking or discussing prayer many people battle with the same issue; we've all heard them before, "I don’t know how to pray" or "Am I praying right?". God knows the desires of our heart, and our longing to know him more! The instructions the Lord Jesus Christ gave to his disciples, is the same way of prayer that we can use. In reading Matthew 6:5-13, we are able to refer to "the Expert" on how to pray! The Lord warns us against praying vain repetitious prayers and praying to be seen by people. He further more lets us know that when we pray, we are to lavish praises on our father, for he is holy and there's is none that compares to him. In prayer we are to ask the Lord for forgives of any offense or wrong doings we have done and  for help within our heart to let go of anything that is hindering us (i.e: unforgiveness, hurt, stress etc). God is our protector, in him we take refuge from our problems. God knows what we have need of before we ask, so we are able to come boldly before God asking and revealing to him the very thing that is of concern to us. But remember we cant get selfish in our prayers and forget the will of God, trying to pursue our on desires. Lord "let your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven"! After all he's "the Expert" and he knows what's best!

LET'S TALK:
1. What did you learn about prayer from Matthew 6:6-13?
2. What does "Hallowed be thy name" mean to you, how do you "hallow" God's name?
3. What are vain repetitious prayers?

  1. We all know that when going to God in prayer we must go with a clean heart and be sure to ask things in the will of God. I actually looked closely into this as I began to pray at the end of this day and was floored at the things God began to reveal to me! God already knew what I needed before I asked! As far as praying in vain repetition, I knew what it meant, but its so easy to forget that when we think God isn't listening or not answering prayers fast enough. Regardless of what is going on in my life or whether God wants to answer my prayers tomorrow, next year or ten years from now, I appreciate Him for giving me what I need when I need it according to His perfect will!
