Day 6: Rehearsing the Character of God

".. the people that do know their God  shall be strong, and do exploits" -Daniel 11:32

How can you truly worship the Lord. if you don't know who he is? Rehearsing the names of God, reminds you of His might, His character, and who He proclaims to me. The word of God gives us the knowledge of who He is. When we read our bible we learn the ways of God. The bible and prayer goes hand-and-hand, you can not pray and not read your word, because when you pray you should be praying according to His word. If we are not reading our word it shows up in our prayer life, in our worship, and in our christian walk. When we worship and began to recite the names of God in our prayer, we enlarge God in our spirit, which helps our belief in God and strenghtens us.

LET'S TALK:
1. What did you learn about God in the prayers of Hannah, Jeremiah, and Daniel?
2. In what ways does reading your word influence your prayer life?
3. What are some of the names of God, and what do they mean to you?

Day 5: Prayer Begins with Worship

"Prayer demonstrates that you value God for who he is"

"Our Father". When praying remember to reverence the name of the Lord, send praises and acknowledgement for who he is. Prayer begins with worship! That worship helps your connect with your father, it reminds you of who He is; how awesome, mighty, and powerful God is! He is the great "I AM" meaning no one compares. When you worship you are acknowledging His worth. "Hallowed be Thy name" means to make holy, to set apart the name of God. To hallow is to reverence that He is the God of your salvation, that He is holy, that he is everything the bible declares him to be! In reading Day 5, Kay speaks on God's commandment in Exodus 20:7, "Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain" Speaking ill of God is not hallowing His precious name. Even when we doubt that God can do some is not hallowing His name, because the word tell us that "He is able to do...". We cannot deny, limit, or speak wrongly of the character of God. We must worship God, and "they that worship must worship Him in spirit and in truth". Our worship is based on truth; truth meaning believing He is! "We will not bring great things to our God unless we know how great He truly is". God cannot move on our behalf unless our faith lies  in order with how great and might He is. Remember the old saying "when praises go up, blessings come down!!!"

LET'S TALK:
1. What does "Hallowed be thy name" mean to you, how do you "hallow" God's name?
3. What can a person take the Lord's name in vain?
4. How do you worship?
5. What are some of the names of God, and what do they mean to you?

Day 4: Come to the Father

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matt 11:28

"There is nothing, absolutely nothing sweeter than knowing you have touched the hem of His garment in prayer." Coming to God in prayer allows us to have peace in our spirit. When the toils of life began to weight down we have a confidence in the Lord that he will be there! He is our Protector, Healer, Deliver! When illness, danger, and even temptation arise we have someone to run to, "Our Father"! Looking to the Lord as our father literally means he's taking the role of a parent for us; no matter how old we get. Think about a child's relationship with their parent(s), when a child falls and scraps their knee who do they run to? When they have just won the spelling bee who do they go to and celebrate with? Their parents! Just as much as when come to him in our time of need, we can even come to him in our good times! Take the analogy I just mention of the spelling bee; who most likely helped the child remember the words and stayed up late to ensure they were well prepared? Who was cheering them on the most during the challenge? And who was just as excited that they became victorious? Their parents! Jesus is our Parent our Father, the strong one. He's there paving the way for us everyday, holding our hands, and leading us on to live a victorious life. When we pray we can come to our Father in faith believing. "Prayer begins by communicating with a God who is there although you have never seen Him".

LET'S TALK:
1. How is it possible to address God as your Father?
2. How are you to come to God?
